Manifesting 101 - Be Specific

Every year on or shortly after the beginning of the year, I make a Vision Board. I’m definitely not a “New Year, New Me” person, but I do try to be a better version of me this year than the last. So, I picked 6 things to work on and I made a pretty board about it on one of those apps. Then I paid the $8 bucks so they could print and ship it to me and plant a tree and all that good stuff.

Sample Vision Board

It feels great and gives me focus on days when I really don’t know what I’m doing with my life. I don’t know about you but I need a purpose or I will fall into despair and depression. This ritual has helped me with the purpose part. It’s also a huge boost in moral when you get to cross something off the list. I’m down 8lbs so far this year, 2 more and I get to cross that goal off my list.

This year, I wanted to strengthen my commitment to a minimalist lifestyle. No sooner

than I started thinking about it, the new book, The Afrominimalist’s Guide to Living with Less, popped into my Bookstagram feed. Great! The book went on my reading list and I wrote “Declutter my Home” on the board with a cute little picture of a perfectly organized closet. Here I am, reading my book, cleaning out my closets and my bedroom, annoying my family about living with less and getting rid of stuff we don’t need. It’s going slowly but it’s going. As the universe will do when you are manifesting and putting effort towards a dream, it will conspire to help you.

Fast forward to last Wednesday… I was on a conference call in my home office listening to someone complain about not being able to do their job while my husband was with a client in his workshop. Unbeknownst to me, the toilet on the main floor of home was running and had begun to overflow. I was still on the never ending meeting, when hubby ran into the room in a panic because the water had flowed out of the bathroom and into the hallway, living room, family room, and dining room. Luckily, the damage was mostly in areas where we had no furniture. Since we have the same ugly tan carpet throughout the entire house and it was way past needing to be replaced, we decided to change all the carpet. The contractor was great and fast. We met with them on Saturday and they scheduled the replacement for Monday. Which meant, the whole family had to clean under their beds and in their closets so they could install the carpet.

I went into full minimalist mode. The only thing my family heard from me for 2 days straight was, “Only keep what you use, need, and love.” New carpet was installed without issue and all the bedrooms, family room, living room, and closet have are decluttered. I still have some bathroom and kitchen cabinets to clear but one good Saturday and I’m marking my goal complete.

Here’s the thing. When I said I wanted to declutter my home, I didn’t expect to have a flood or spend money we really didn’t have to replace my carpet. I was thinking this would be a gradual purge process I could do over the next couple months. I guess I need to be more specific in my manifesting. It felt like one of those Ursula type deals. I signed the contract for a decluttered home and all it cost me was thousands of dollars for new carpet. Oh well, I’m going to go sit cross-legged on the floor and manifest a windfall of tax-free cash. Keep Manifesting (with specific details).
